So you know what we are (ish) but want to know more! Well...
Bournemouth Explorers formed in 2005 when the scout movement revamped the looks and feel of scouting taking the old look of scouting and bringing it in to the millenium. New Uniform, New Sections and New Age groupings:
The Explorers section was then started and now has 50+ members in the Bournemouth District alone. Bournemouth town has two units that cover it Avon Explorers are East of the town whilst Genesis Explorers cover the west of Bournemouth.
Explorer Scouting is still a charity and relies on fundraising events and membership to enable us to run. We have a number of ways raising funds for ourselves whether it be fetes, bag packs, gift aid, online promotions or Donations from organistations.
So what sort of things do Explorers well without sounding obvious scouty things; Camping, Climbing, Walking, Sailing, Canoeing, Games and Team building. But Explorers do this and more Zorbing, White Water Canoeing/Kayaking, High Ropes, Talent nights, night hikes, challenge hikes, Geo caching.
Of course there is also all the camping and outdoorsie things we do but to make Scouting more formal alot of the skills that can be taught also qualify towards formal qualifications. The British School of Computing backs all the work we do on our skills, also we are envolved with the Duke of Edingburgh scheme.
